Traveling through the scenic vistas of Southern and Western Maine.
A good friend once asked me, “What are you?” When I responded that I needed more information he then said, “What kind of person are you...What makes you tick?” Then he told me to take some time to ponder it. After some contemplation I answered him simply- I am a person who makes things with my hands. It doesn’t matter what I make, a cappuccino, a sterling silver necklace, a birch bark birdhouse… but I must fabricate something with my hands. Otherwise, I am not truly content.
In 2014, I was privileged to become my mother's caregiver. After her passing in 2017, I experienced some health challenges of my own that set me back. Many years later I have since gotten back on my feet albeit a little slower than I would prefer. But I am still managing to make things by hand and have found the process to be very therapeutic.
This website serves as a showcase for my many interests. As a metalsmith (Sea Rose Studio), I also dabble in photography (Local Images), decoupage art, and birchbark birdhouses. They may seem dissimilar but my interests are all influenced by my home near scenic Lake Arrowhead, Maine. I hope you enjoy browsing this site and please be sure to check back soon. I am always in the process of making something.
Currently, I have been hanging out with my good friend, Cursin' Grammy. Some of my decoupage has been inspired by her Oracle Deck and her tremendously thoughtful guide book that accompanies the deck. Please visit her website or see her at craft fairs to learn more about her work.
Please note that nothing on this website is for sale. However, if you have purchased a piece of jewelry in the past and need it polished or repaired, I am happy to continue to offer that service for free to our loyal customers.

Sea Rose was started in 1984 by Judith Gilday in Kennebunkport, Maine. Judith’s daughter Elizabeth joined Sea Rose and both she and Judith have been designing and fabricating together for over 25 years.
Judith studied at the Kansas City Art Institute. She uses different textural techniques such as fusing, reticulation and granulation to achieve her unique organic forms. Elizabeth studied art at the University of Southern Maine and enjoys creating linear pieces with an asymmetrical flair. Both Judith and Elizabeth relish traveling the country in search of good restaurants and unique fossils and stones to add to their pieces.
Sea Rose does not cast their pieces. Each piece is a handmade one-of-a-kind work of art. Their designs are rich in organic forms inspired by their studio’s scenic setting in Limerick, Maine.
Judith and Elizabeth have been honored to open their studio to students from Kennebunk High School’s Apprenticeship for the Arts. Over the years these students have apprenticed and even have been employed by Sea Rose as designers and fabricators. Sea Rose is very proud of their apprentices achievements both in the studio and in art school. Some of these students are; Rachel Lindsey, Anthony Russo, Becca Grady, Nate Jones, Cat Bates, and Sophie Hughes- just to name a few.
